Principal Advisor Alcohol & Other Drugs HIV and Health Promo
The Principal Advisor AOD/HHP provides high level advice to senior departmental staff on all matters relating to alcohol and other drugs and the prevention of blood borne virus infections such as HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C. The role of the Principal Advisor AOD/HHP includes developing policies and procedures, in relation to alcohol and drugs and health promotion, that are consistent with the National Drug Strategy. These policies facilitate the integrated delivery of a comprehensive range of services and programs aimed at minimising the harms resulting from alcohol and drug use among offenders in custody and in the community, through a balanced approach involving harm reduction, supply reduction and demand reduction.
The Principal Advisor AOD/HHP also promotes and negotiates relevant research in this area, looking at practice standards, program & service evaluation and ways to improve integrated responses to alcohol and drug use and related harms.
The Principal Advisor AOD/HHP provides advice and support in relation to the development, accreditation, approval and evaluation of programs and services to minimise harm and reduce offending associated with substance misuse and gambling.
Together with the Principal Advisor Family and Community Support, the Principal Advisor AOD/HHP is responsible for ensuring the provision of appropriate clinical supervision for Offender Services and Programs staff involved in direct service delivery, in order to enhance the department's service to both offenders and the wider community.

- Offenders affected by alcohol and drug misuse or dependence, bloodborne virus infections or gambling are supported and assisted through assessment and referral, educational and therapeutic interventions, health promotion and harm prevention policies and programs
- Partnerships with relevant external agencies are maintained and supported.
- The Department is represented to external, academic institutions and community networks.
