Mannus Correctional Complex

Mannus Correctional Centre is a minimum-security institution for 164 males. A periodic detention centre for males and females is situated nearby. The Centre is 515km south of Sydney and 115km south-east of Wagga Wagga and approximately 10 km from the town of Tumbarumba.

The periodic detention centre operates on weekends and detainees are employed on community projects.

How to get there

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is at Wagga Wagga. CFor information regarding train and bus times contact Countrylink.
City Rail Information

Mannus Correctional Centre provides a bus service from the Tumbarumba Newsagency at 9am on weekends. Visitors are advised to be at the Tumbarumba Newsagency by 8:45am.

Private Transport

From Sydney take the Hume Highway until the turn off to Tumut. Travel to Tumut, Batlow, then Tumbarumba. Mannus Correctional Centre is 10km from Tumbarumba, on the Jingellie Road (also known as Linden Roth Drive).

From Melbourne take the Hume Highway to Holbrook. Approximately 20km past Holbrook, turn right into Little Billabong Road then right into Wagga Road. Travel for approximately 40km to Tumbarumba.

Parking is available within easy walking distance of the Centre.

Visitor Information

Bookings:

All visits are required to be booked; booking must be completed by 2:00 pm on the Friday preceding the weekend of the intended visit. General visit and booking enquiries may be made on (02) 6941 0335 or (02) 6941 0333.

Visit times:

Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 8:00am - 3:00pm.

Conditions:

You may take in certain barbeque and picnic foods and a small amount of money in coins and small denomination notes for the canteen and vending machines. Please contact the Centre to check what items are permitted. No seafood is allowed.

Legal Visits

Legal practitioners may visit seven days between 9:00am - 3:00pm. Notification of intention to visit should be made by telephoning the Centre on (02) 6941 0333 twenty-four hours in advance.

Industries

Inmates are employed in afforestation work, livestock and agricultural activities, viniculture, horticulture, apple orchard, building maintenance, forklift and tractor operations.

Inmates also work in service areas such as general maintenance, cleaning, gardening, and the laundry.

Community Involvement

The Centre has strong ties with the local community and is involved in many community projects, including maintenance of the local community grounds, aged people's homes, public buildings and the Mannus Community Hall.

A small community ‘gang’ of inmates (4) now operates from the Centre in conjunction with Local Council staff.
