Lithgow Correctional Centre

Lithgow Correctional Centre is a maximum security institution for males located 152km west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains. The Centre is at Marrangaroo, 7km west of Lithgow on the Great Western Highway.

How To Get There

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is at Lithgow. A taxi ride from the station to the Centre is approximately 7 km. A bus service runs from outside the Post Office (which is situated on Main Street across the road from the railway station) to the Centre on visits days. A bus leaves the Centre at approximately 3.00 pm for the return journey to the railway station.
City Rail Information

The Community Restorative Centre (CRC) runs a bus service to the Centre from various points in Sydney. For further information and to book your seat, call 02 9288 8700 between 9 am and 5 pm from Monday to Friday.

Private Transport

Travelling from Sydney, continue through Lithgow on the Great Western Highway. The turnoff to the Centre is signposted. There is ample parking at the Centre.

Visitor Information

Bookings:

Visits to the Centre must be booked during the week prior to your visit. Telephone (02) 6350 2222 Monday to Friday between 10.00am - 12 noon and 1.00pm to 3.00pm. No bookings will be taken on weekends or public holidays.

Inmates who are on special management regimes/programs have special booking procedures, which will be advised on enquiry to the above number as per the above booking times.

Visit times:

Saturday and Sunday from 9.00am to 11.30am and from 12 noon to 2.30pm.

Conditions:

Only a small amount in coins may be taken into the Centre for use in the vending machines. No other items apart from those listed for visitors with infants are permitted. Should you wish to leave money, educational material or any other article at reception to be delivered to an inmate by an officer, you must telephone to ask whether this is permitted prior to your visit.

Legal Visits

Legal practitioners may visit from Monday to Friday between 10.30 am and 2.45 pm.
Saturday and Sunday visits may be made between 9.00 am - 11.30 am and 12.00 noon - 2.30 pm.

Notification of intention to visit should be made in writing to the General Manager noting relevant details such as proposed visit date and time and names of inmates being visited. Notification must be submitted in advance via mail or faxed to (02) 6350 2288 or mailed to PO Box 666 Lithgow NSW 2790.

Industries

Industries at Lithgow Correctional Centre consist of Textile, Technology and Service Industries. Training programs are provided in the form of WorkCover, OH&S, TAFE and CSI Task Books.

The Textile Unit manufactures items for Health, Hospitality and Justice Agencys. The Technology Unit manufactures computer cables for the Asian market. The Service Industries, employing up to ninety (90) inmates, assist in general maintenance, hygiene and catering within the Centre.

Inmates are encouraged to participate in the following courses. Please note that these are subject to change.
