John Morony Correctional Complex

The John Morony Correctional Complex is located 5 km south of Windsor. The Complex houses the John Morony Correctional Centre, a medium security correctional centre for men; the Outer Metropolitan Multi Purpose Correctional Centre, a minimum security correctional centre for men, and Dillwynia Correctional Centre a medium security correctional centre for women.

Several units of the Security & Intelligence Branch are on-site. These include the Specialised Training Unit, the Drug Detector Dog Unit and the Pre Release Programs Unit.

How To Get There

Public Transport

Regular train services stop at either Windsor or Penrith railway stations. A number 673 bus service operates between Penrith railway station and the Complex on Saturdays only. This service varies with seasonal and passenger demands. Telephone 131 500 for current train/bus timetable information.
City Rail Information

There are no bus services on Sundays or Public Holidays.

Private Transport

From Blacktown, drive towards Richmond on the Richmond Road. Turn left onto the Northern Road. The John Morony Complex is 800m on the left.

From Penrith, travel towards Windsor. Turn off the roundabout onto the Northern Road. Go past the Waste Services Depot - Castlereagh Landfill Depot - and turn right for the John Morony Complex. There is ample car parking facilities available.

Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays between 8:30am-11:00am and 12:15pm-3:00pm

Conditions

Visitors are not permitted to take food into the Complex. Food may be purchased from a canteen in either of the centres. Barbecue facilities are also available. Coins for use in drink vending machines and money for canteen purchases are permitted to be taken into the centres.

Legal Visits

Legal practitioners may visit Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 3.00pm. Notification of intention to visit should be made by faxing the General Manager at least 24 hours prior to the visit on fax (02) 4582 2261.

Industries

Inmates are employed in workshops specialising in metal work, powder coating, upholstery, laundry and maintenance services. These workshops produce products for government, private and commercial organisations.

Employment is also available in internal and external grounds maintenance, wildlife care, building maintenance, clerical work and full-time education. All inmates, other than those excluded by illness or disability, are expected to work.

Special Programs

The Complex has a world famous wildlife centre which gives inmates the chance to work with the NSW Wildlife Information and Rescue Service (WIRES) and Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services, caring for injured, orphaned and sick animals.
