Grafton Correctional Centre

Grafton Correctional Centre is a medium/minimum security institution for males and females situated in the centre of Grafton City, 650km north of Sydney. As well as housing sentenced offenders, the Centre serves as a reception prison for northern NSW.

How to get there

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is Grafton City Station on the North Coast Line, approximately 5km from the Centre. A taxi service operates from the station and a bus service from adjacent Bent Street every 30 minutes on weekdays, and hourly on Saturday until 1pm.

The service does not operate after 1pm Saturday, Sundays and Public Holidays. Catch any bus with destination "Hospital".

Private Transport

Pacific Highway & Gwydir Highway: If travelling this route from north or south, proceed across the bridge to North Grafton, turn right at the 2nd roundabout into Prince Street, turn left at the 2nd roundabout into Dobie Street, then turn right at the next roundabout into Queen Street, which leads to the Centre.

Summerland Way:After entering the city limits turn left at the Sunrise Store, which leads to the Centre.

There is street parking adjacent to the Centre.

Visitor Information

Area "A" Main

Bookings:

Visits must be pre booked. Bookings may be made on (02) 6642 0333 Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 6:00pm.

Visit times:

Friday to Sunday, 9.00am to 11.00am, 1.00pm to 3pm.

What may be taken in:

Small amount of coins for drink vending machines.

Area "B" Units and June Baker Centre

Bookings:

Visits booking not required for this area.

Visit times:

Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 9:00am to 3:15pm.

What may be taken in:

Lunch can be ordered for delivery at the Hospital Shop situated directly opposite the Centre. Small amount of coins for drink and snack vending machines.

Legal Visits

Legal practitioners may visit seven days between 9:00am and 3:00pm. Notification of intention to visit must be forwarded on letterhead twenty four hours in advance.

Industries

The major industries operating in the Centre are printing and textiles. Inmates are also employed in the kitchen, laundry and in general cleaning and maintenance duties.
