Parolee Support Initiative - Mental Health/Intellectual Disability (PSI-MH/ID)
The PSI-MH/ID is undergoing a two year trial period in the Fairfield/Liverpool area of NSW.
The PSI-MH/ID is aimed at providing accommodation and support to parolees with a mental illness and/or intellectual disability during the initial period of release from custody when the risk of re-offence is highest. That is, where unstable accommodation or homelessness jeopardises the safety of the community by placing the parolees at increased risk of re-offending.
A major focus of the PSI-MH/ID is to reduce the risk to the community by meeting the accommodation and support needs of this population by way of a partnership approach.
The PSI-MH/ID model involves a partnership and/or co-operation between the Department of Corrective Services, the Department of Housing, NSW Health, Justice Health, the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care and non-government treatment providers and accommodation support services.
The Community Restorative Centre (CRC) is the non-government organisation who has also been contracted by the Department to provide the support services required by program participants.
