Program Officer – Service and Programs Officer, Alcohol and Other Drug Worker, Welfare Officer
Corrective Services NSW employs Program Officers who work with offenders in custody and in the community. Within this group of employees, there are specialist positions including: Services and Programs Officer, Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Worker and Welfare Officer, based at correctional centres throughout the State.


Successful applicants for positions of Services and Programs Officer should have relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychological, mental-health or human-service field or relevant experience working with family, social and/or drug and alcohol related issues. They must demonstrate good skills and experience in group processes and program facilitation, conflict resolution and have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. They must be confident and competent in crisis interventions and keep up-to-date with professional knowledge.
Services and Programs Officers are required to undertake offender assessments for case planning and delivery of programs and services for offenders to reduce re-offending and support integration into the community. They are part of a case management team and must provide reports to courts and the State Parole Authority as required.
Successful applicants for positions of AOD Worker should have relevant tertiary qualifications or relevant experience. They must demonstrate good skills in the planning, implementation and co-ordination of contemporary alcohol and other drug program interventions on an individual and group basis. They also must be confident and competent in crisis interventions and keep up-to-date with professional knowledge. An AOD Worker is required to undertake offender assessments and referrals to community-based alcohol and other drug service providers. They are part of a case management team and must provide reports to courts and the State Parole Authority as required.
Successful applicants for positions of Welfare Officer should have relevant tertiary qualifications or relevant equivalent experience in a social work, psychological, mental-health or human-service field. They must demonstrate good skills in delivering professional and reliable welfare services which support offenders and their families in coping practically and emotionally with incarceration. They must conduct themselves with a high degree of professional integrity and confidentiality and be part of an effective case management team. They must have impeccable networking skills and have a detailed knowledge of relevant services to which they can refer offenders pre and post-release. They must demonstrate excellent counselling and communication skills.
