Correctional Officer / Casual Correctional Officer
Corrective Services NSW employs Correctional Officers in correctional centres and at courts.
Correctional Officers are required to wear a uniform and there is a hierarchical structure of rank and associated responsibilities. Casual Correctional Officers are employed at the rank of basegrade correctional officer only.
Correctional Officers are active participants in Corrective Services' management of inmates, ensuring the security and safety of correctional centres and working closely with other employees, including health workers, probation and parole officers and industries officers who oversee inmates working in Corrective Services Industries.
To see where the correctional centres are located, please go to the Correctional Centres page. We are recruiting for Casual Correctional Officers in metropolitan and country locations. The country locations include Wellington, Goulburn, Kempsey, Grafton, Lithgow and Bathurst.

All applicants for a position of Correctional Officer must undertake a suitability assessment. As these officers are required to function in a highly professional manner and in a tightly controlled environment, it is vital that they have demonstrated skills and attitudes which contribute to effective people management. Correctional Officers/Casual Correctional Officers must have good communication skills, be non-judgmental in their dealings with offenders, apply rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner, show integrity and courage and be fit and healthy.
Successful applicants must complete an 11-week Primary Training course at the Brush Farm Corrective Services Academy at Eastwood. During this training program, all new officers are paid and, depending on their circumstances, may be eligible for accommodation at the Academy.
Full-time Correctional Officers are employed as permanent on probation and complete a Certificate III in Correctional Practice. Confirmation of permanent appointment is considered after completion of the probationary period and this Certificate. Correctional Officers may elect, and are encouraged, to undertake further study.
