Compliance and Monitoring Officer

What they do

Corrective Services NSW employs Compliance and Monitoring Officers who form the Community Compliance Group which reports directly to the Deputy Commissioner, Offender Management and Operations.

Compliance and Monitoring Officers conduct unannounced home visits on extreme high risk, high risk and high profile offenders across the State of NSW. These officers manage offenders who, having served a custodial sentence, are on extended supervision orders in the community, as well as any offender who is deemed high risk and is problematic and non-compliant.

In addition, the officers on the Community Compliance Group are in charge of electronic monitoring related to home detention and stages of the Drug Court Program. They also conduct random checks on offenders who are on work release, day and weekend leave and/or education leave from correctional centres.

Where they work

Compliance and Monitoring Officers are based at offices in Campbelltown, Blacktown , Newcastle, Wollongong, Dubbo, Goulburn, Grafton, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Tamworth and Broken Hill.

Qualifications and skills

Successful applicants for the position of Compliance and Monitoring Officer are expected to carry out their work with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility. They must be able to make reasoned decisions within the defined parameters of their role. They must be able to deal with offenders they are monitoring in a highly professional manner.

Successful applicants are required to undertake eight weeks of accredited training and complete all associated assessment tasks to receive the Diploma in Correctional Administration. They can attend training for this qualification during working hours.

Successful applicants who do not hold a Certificate IV in Correctional Practice or equivalent must successfully complete the same initial eight-week training course at the Brush Farm Corrective Services Academy at Eastwood as applicants for positions of Probation and Parole Officer. They are also required to complete all assessments tasks associated with the Certificate IV in Correctional Practice and the Diploma of Correctional Administration.
