Goulburn Correctional Centre

Goulburn Correctional Centre is a maximum/minimum security institution for males. It is located in the Southern Tablelands, 197km south-west of Sydney.

How to Get There

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is Goulburn. A taxi ride from the station to the Centre is approximately 3 km. The CRC Bus service runs every second weekend from various points in Sydney. To book a seat on this bus contact CRC on (02)9288 8700.
City Rail Information

Private Transport

Travelling from Sydney, turn right at the first set of lights on the way into Goulburn ( Union Street). Take the first right (at the roundabout) and follow the road around to the correctional centre for about 1km. There is ample parking outside the main boom gate.

Main Gaol

Bookings:

Visits to the maximum and minimum security units must be booked by phoning.

Visit times:

Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Conditions:

  • 4 adults and a reasonable amount of children may visit at a time.
  • Visits with inmates from the maximum security wing are limited to an hour only.
  • There is no time limit on visits with inmates from the minimum security wing. Visits may be extended if space and visitor numbers permit.
  • All visitors are requested to arrive at least 30 minutes before the time booked and to be considerate of other booked visits.

High Risk Management Unit

Bookings:

Visits to the High Risk Management Unit (HRMU) must be booked by phoning
02 4827 2424.

Visit times:

Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Conditions:

  • All visitors to the HRMU must receive approval prior to visiting. For further information contact 02 4827 2424.
  • 4 adults and a reasonable amount of children may visit at a time.
  • The duration of each visit will be an hour.
  • All visitors are requested to arrive at least 30 minutes before the time booked and to be considerate of other booked visits.

Legal Visits

Legal practitioners may visit Monday to Friday between 9 - 11 am and 1 -2.30pm. Twenty-four hours notice is required for visits to the main section of the complex with 48 hours notice required for visits to the High Risk Management Unit. Written notification of the intention to visit must be faxed to the Centre on 02 4827 2219. Phone enquiries can be made on 02 4827 2218

Industries

Industries include: carpentry furniture & timber, services demountables refurbishment and metal fabrication, textiles, food services, laundry, building maintenance and internal and external grounds maintenance.

Inmates are encouraged to participate in the following courses, which are subject to change.

Inmate Programs

The Centre operates a number of programs to meet the special needs of inmates, including additional support for inmates with an intellectual disability, young offenders, Aboriginal offenders and pre release preparation. Other programs include life skills, hospitality and art skills.
